Research Assistant
I am a registered Veterinary and Laboratory Animal Technician and have been working in medical research since 2008 in Canada, the U.K., Switzerland and now Portugal. I am particularly interested in the field of cancer research and am excited to apply my skill set to supporting the many challenges faced in studying cancer dormancy and metastatic disease.
Jennifer obtained her Veterinary Technician Diploma in 2010, and her credentials as a registered Laboratory Animal Technician in 2011, both from the Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technology, in Canada. From 2011-2014, she worked as a veterinarian technician at the University of Toronto, in Canada, assisting with husbandry, surgical procedures and tissue collection from rats and mice. In 2014, she moved overseas and joined the Newcastle University, in the UK, as a research technician to assist with husbandry, surgery and monitoring of pigs and chicken. Later in 2016, she became an animal surgical theatre manager still at the Newcastle University, in the UK, where she assisted with surgical procedures on non-human primates and rodents for the Institute of Neuroscience until 2018.
In 2019, Jennifer embraced a position as a Lab technician in the Tumor Immunology laboratory led by Melita Irving at the University of Lausanne, in Switzerland, where she supported studies involving mouse tumor models and adoptive cell transfer therapy. In 2022, she moved to the CHUV Hospital still in Lausanne, to join Kirsten Scholten's team and assist animal work downstream of T cell product development.
In April 2024, Jennifer joined the Cancer Dormancy & Immunity Laboratory at the Champalimaud Foundation, where she helps with laboratory organization and supports animal work on multiple research projects.
In February 2025, Jenn left the lab to continue her career as an Animal Technician at the Champalimaud Rodent Platform. Farewell Jenn, and we'll keep seeing you downstairs!
